Blacks announce new leadership group for 2023

Friday 24 March 2023

Ahead of our return to A-Grade football come April 15, the University Blacks are excited to announce that Campbell Moorfield will co-captain the Club alongside Josh Steadman for 2023. Campbell has been part of the leadership group since 2019, playing the role of deputy to Steadman, and outgoing co-captain, Jordan Quaile. Not only is he the reigning Cordner Medalist, but also plays the role of Club Treasurer and has been a pillar of consistency for the Blacks over the last few years, on and off the field.

Senior Coach, Dale Bower, shared a similar sentiment and admitted the appointment was simply a reward earned through actions, not just words.

“Moorf has been a great leader by example for some time and obviously a great performer on field, he thoroughly deserves to captain the Club alongside Josh Steadman."

On top of that, the Club is also excited to announce the addition of Lachlan Knight to the leadership group, who joins existing members Henry Bennett and Nick Hey to round out the quintet. Bower said “Lachy has well and truly earned the right to be among the leadership group. Our 5 leaders all bring something a little different to the table, but all have one thing in common – that they are true Blackers and wonderful examples to our young players.”

As one door opens, another closes, and it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to a true legend of the Club in Jordan Quaile, who is heading overseas for 2023. Bower was full of praise for Quaile who shared the captaincy with Steadman since 2019.

“Jordan Quaile steps away from the co-captaincy and the Blacks for the time being as he heads off on a much deserved holiday. Jordan’s contribution have been enormous, I haven’t seen many set standards around a Club as well as he has.”

The Blacks kick off their campaign at the Uni Main on Saturday, April 15th against 2022 finalists, Old Brighton. We hope to see you there cheering on our new player leaders!
