Sevior receives 2018 Rising Star nod

Wednesday 29 August 2018

The University Blacks have won their second VAFA Rising Star nomination, with Luke Sevior joining Lachie Haysman among the 2018 nominees.

Sevior was instrumental in the Blacks’ 113-point win over Mazenod in the final round of the home and away season, booting three goals and being named among the best players.

The win saw the Blacks collect 15 wins through 18 games across the season and finish third on the ladder, with a semi-final clash looming against Caulfield Grammarians this Sunday.

Sevior started the season in the Under 19 side, where he was a standout contributor as captain. After being named in the best players ten times from eleven games in the Unders (including three best on grounds), he has found his way into the Senior side at the pointy end of the season and settled beautifully, kicking eight goals in the last three games.

The Rising Star nominee was recruited from Assumption College Kilmore after moving to Melbourne to study at university. A strong body in the contest, his running capacity, competitiveness and decision making have been features of his appearances at Senior level.

Haysman was nominated in Round 3 after a strong performance in the Blacks' 95-point win over Ajax.
