The University Blacks Football Club is proud to announce the development of a Women’s Under 19 program, marking an exciting new chapter in the Club’s long and proud history.

This initiative represents far more than the introduction of a new team. It is a significant step in strengthening the pathway for young women within the Blacks community, providing a genuine football home for new and existing University of Melbourne students and laying strong foundations for the future of women’s football at the University of Melbourne.

For generations, the University Blacks have been built on opportunity, development, and belonging. The Women’s Under 19 program is designed to reflect those same values — creating an environment where players can learn the game, grow as athletes and people, and feel connected to something bigger than themselves.

As the program takes shape, the journey ahead is an exciting one. From establishing a strong culture and identity, to supporting players through their formative football years, this team will play a critical role in the long-term sustainability and success of women’s football at the Blacks. What is built now will help shape opportunities not just for this season, but for many years to come.

Like all great programs, its success will be driven by people.

Inaugural Coach – Abby Kemp

We are delighted to announce Abby Kemp as the inaugural coach of the Women’s Under 19s for 2026.

Abby is currently studying Sport Coaching and Development at La Trobe University in partnership with the Carlton College of Sport and brings strong enthusiasm for athlete development and participation in women’s sport.

Her passion for coaching began during her teenage years assisting with junior training sessions and shadowing football and basketball coaches, and she has since built broad experience working with young athletes as a qualified swimming instructor and through multiple seasons teaching and instructing snowboarding.

Abby is particularly driven by helping players grow not only in their football ability, but also in confidence, teamwork and enjoyment of the game, and she is eager to create a positive and inclusive environment where players feel comfortable learning and improving together.

Her energy, commitment and player-first approach make her a fantastic person to lead this program in its foundation year.

We are now inviting players of all experience levels to be part of this historic first season. You do not need a football background — whether you’ve played for years, played another sport, or have never picked up a Sherrin before, you are welcome.

This is a rare opportunity to be a foundation player and help shape the culture, identity and traditions of a team from day one. Players interested in joining are encouraged to complete our Google registration form to register their interest in playing in 2026.

If you have ever thought about playing football, making new friends at university, or simply trying something different — this is your chance.

The Club is also calling on the wider Blacks community — past players, members, alumni, families, supporters and friends — to put their hand up and be part of this journey. Whether through coaching, mentoring, administration, game-day support, or simply sharing knowledge and experience, every contribution will help bring this program to life.

This is a chance to be involved at the ground level of something special. To help create an environment where young women can thrive, where standards are set early, and where the next generation of Blacks footballers are supported both on and off the field.

The University Blacks have always been strongest when the community comes together. With the launch of the Women’s Under 19 program, we invite you to help shape its future and ensure it becomes a lasting and meaningful part of our Club.

If you’re interested in being involved or would like to learn more, we’d love to hear from you.

Together, we can build something that lasts.
