Post Season Post Vol Deux
24 September 2008
In the bumper second edition of the Post Season Post you'll find a Presentation Night Preview, Things To Do Now Football Has Finished, answers to all our readers' burning questions, pictures and an obligatory Kiza joke.
The views in the following stories are those of the author and not necessarily those of the club.
Presentation Night - 'A touch of Black': a night of little black dresses, black ties, and black men
Geez, I'm excited about this Friday. I just love dressing up in my team's colours and heading down Collins St to take a look at some of the finest footballers going around, being tooted and cheered as they pass. Smiles on their faces, waving to all and sundry.
No I'm not talking about the Geelong-Hawthorn grand final parade. I'm preparing myself for, and saving my excitement for the Blacks Presentation night, this Grand Final Eve!
There has been much innuendo and rumour about this year's presentation night. Can last year's show be topped by producers, Jesse Hamilton & co? Will Nick Brooks' have 1, 2 or possibly 3 women on his arm as he arrives (fashionably late of course) on the red carpet? Rumours have been brewing of an abbreviated format for the night. I request not as abbreviated as Demetriou's reading of the votes on Monday night, but one that ensures the women of the club will only be thanked once.
Rumour has it that the glamour couple of Jones and Pask, having worked the Beijing circuit, have entered town and could be a big drawcard on the red carpet. As Mel from Sunrise said "that Marty is one good lookin' fella". Yeah, you'd say that when you've been sitting next to Koschy for the past 5 years. Speaking of Koschy, our very own John is recovering well from injury and is one of the favourites to take out the second ever Keilar Medal for player's player, to be announced on the night. For my two bobs, my money's on a Kempton clean sweep this year…

Things to do now Football has finished
Pre-Pre Season
No, that is not the title of the opening chapter of the fourth book in the Jacob Two Two series….The what I hear you ask, well read below so that I can continue:
Jacob Two-Two is the central character in a trilogy of children's books, Jacob Two-Two Meets the Hooded Fang (1975), Jacob Two-Two and the Dinosaur (1987) and Jacob Two-Two's First Spy Case (1995), written by Mordecai Richler. Jacob is the youngest child of five and has to say things twice because people don't hear him the first time. The first book in the series has twice been filmed, in 1978 and in 1999, the latter film starring Gary Busey (Point Break).

This is in fact an update on the Blacks exciting new training schedule being developed to help the Blacks in the following areas in season 09:
· Prepare Marto’s hamstring’s for a season of 6+ games so we can get him into the 100 games club (He played his 50th in 2004) through regular 7am runs @ the Tan on Tuesdays.
· The removal of Kieran’s Tuckshop arms through regular 7am swims @ MSAC on Wednesday and Friday mornings.
· Sensing an early morning theme here, well think again because we also have on offer Thursday night Boxing and Core sessions @ the Uni gym designed to strengthen Jesso’s abdominal muscles to the point where he “Drinks until he needs to go to the toilet but can hold it in long enough to make the toilet”
· Any rumours of training sessions aimed at replenishing Robbie Scarlett’s hair follicles have gone up in smoke.…much like Torney & Hausler’s hair at Mad Monday (boom boom)
So Boys, its time to dust off the budgey smugglers, polish the Puma’s and recharge the batteries in the alarm clock because pre-pre season is here. With summer fast approaching what better way to get the Beach Body looking good* than with a few October and November training sessions. Check out the webpage for full details.
* will need to be combined with regular solarium visits for the following people: Mark Prowse, Jesso, Matt Kempton, Matt Thompson
Post Season Post Agony Aunt
Dear Post Season Post,
During the year I played in a reserve game with Essendon veteran Mark Bolton. At the end of season vote count, I received 3 votes for my performance while Mark received none. Does this make me 3 times as good as Bolts?
Yours in hope,
Val
Dear Val,
I think you are a little confused. You say that during the only reserve game you and Bolts played together, you received three votes, while Bolts received zero. This does not mean that you are three times better that he. Simple mathematics will tell you that 3 x 0 is still 0. Rather you are infinity times better.
This Week's Burning Question - Will the Blacks U/19 Team become the Black Bears?
At first glance, this question seems ridiculous, but a closer examination into newly appointed Under 19 Coach Luke O'Connell playing record reveals an interesting pattern. Before playing at Blacks, Luke played at the Banyule Bears. Post Blacks, he played for the Kew Bears and rumour has it that he was tossing up coaching offers from Lower Plenty Bears Football Club, the Bears Lagoon – Serpentine Football Club and a retrospective offer from Robert Walls of the Brisbane Bears before he accepted at Blacks.
A source who refused to be named doubted the idea would ever go ahead, but could see the potential. "Look, you could still leave the famous Black name, and just add 'Bear' in. The Clubbies could become the Cubbies, it opens up merchandise opportunities such as Black Teddy Bears©, as well as potential sponsorship with
Herman-Coburg Bears and even the Bundy Bear".
Luke refused to be drawn into the topic when asked by the Post Season Post, stating only that he "looks forward to bringing my own flavour and ideas to the Cubs, I mean the Club's youngest members".
