Vale Jim Peters

The Blacks were most saddened to learn of the passing of Jim Peters last Tuesday. Jim was a true legend of our club who has been contributing on and off the field since 1931. Indeed just in August we were honoured to have Jim and his wife Moira join us at a premiership players’ lunch. Jim was a key speaker at the Melbourne University Team of the Modern Era function in 2003 and gave an eloquent and entertaining account of life as a University footballer in all its richness. Several there present recall Jim’s humble and memorable closing words “Thank you all so much for having me and can I wish you all the very best in the world.”

The following notice was published in The Age today.

The University Blacks Football Club mourn the passing of Jim Peters and extend our deepest condolences to the family.  Jim represented the Blacks and the VAFA with immense distinction.   An inspirational and modest champion, Jim captained the 1935 premiership, was named as one of the inaugural VAFA Legends and remained a loyal and active supporter for over 75 years. The Blacks will hold dear the memory of a wonderful clubman.”

The funeral will be held at Newman College at 12 noon on Wednesday, October 6th.
