Brother of Blackers makes cracking AFL debut!

Mick Barlow has been praised for his stunning debut for the Dockers, kicking 2 goals in a best on ground performance. See the full article below...

Some highlights:
"Elevated rookie Michael Barlow lifted above everyone on the ground to immediately make himself a favourite of Fremantle fans with a debut of rare significance.

His 33 possessions made a mockery of his selection with pick eight in last December's rookie draft. And he also helped put an early dent in the top-four ambitions of the Crows."

"McPhee was the big name in trade week, Morabito the big name in the draft, and Silvagni a big name everywhere. But it was Barlow who dominated the game, particularly in the first half.

Twenty possessions, a goal, three clearances, two inside 50s, and a tackle in his first two quarters of league football, and a debut to rival any in recent years was unfolding."

"If both teams made football look impossible in term one, then the game became seemingly simple for the Dockers in the second quarter - with Barlow the epitome.

Sublime passing with foot and hand, spoils, hard running - the 22-year-old was doing it all."

"Recruiters all over Victoria should hang their heads in shame, after Michael Barlow's AFL debut. It was not like the Werribee boy had not done enough in his home state, winning the Fothergill-Round Medal for the VFL's best young player. But somehow allowed to slip to number eight in the rookie draft, he has given the Dockers a ready-made ball magnet."

Congratulations to Mick and the Barlow's, strong supporters of the Blacks, while also being heavily involved in local football in Shepparton. No doubt Mick's toughness and speed would be a direct result of having big brothers like Herb and Dom. I am picturing the two of them giving Mick until the count of 10 before they start chasing him around.

We look forward to having Mick play for us in 15 years when his AFL career is over.

As pointed out by Nugget, all the way from London, Mick Barlow did train with the Blacks on the Uni Main in 2006, so no doubt Ray will be claiming him. Unfortunately the 2010 Blacks Flyer has already been printed, otherwise he would definitely have made the back page.

In other news, the season starts on April 10.

Bring it on.

The Black Bear.
