Blacks defeated by Old Xavs at Murchison
29 March 2011
On Saturday, the Blacks headed north to Murchison for their annual pre-season hit out against competiton benchmark the Old Xaverians Football Club.
Greeted by a great surface and warm, sunny conditions, the Blacks were jumped by a ruthless OXFC side which capitalised on every mistake, heading to the first break leading by 5 goals. Afterwards, the game was far more competitive, with the Blacks showing some very encouraging signs for the year ahead. Young tyros Harry McKenna and Jackson Roder showed plenty around the ball whilst Tom Howgate played an excellent game at full back, bearing the fruits of an excellent pre-season.
The team will take plenty away from the well drilled Old Xavs outfit, who look set for another strong year in the Premier Section.
After the match, both teams enjoyed a recovery session in the very full Goulburn River and some excellent refreshments which were provided by our hosts from the Murchison 'Hoppers' Football Club. The hospitality didn't end there, with the Blacks staying on in Murchison for a night of festivities at the Caledonian Hotel.
