Barrett returns to the Blacks as Ressies Coach
8 November 2008
After exploring the world for much of the last two years, 2006 premiership coach Chris Barrett will return to the club to coach the reserves in 2009. Barrett, a much loved figure around the club after leading the Blacks to the “Win for the ages”
(R Wilson, Blacks Newsletter, October 2006) is back in Melbourne with his customary passion for the Sherrin. “I have really missed it. I spent a year living in Paris and Montreal, then travelled through southern Europe, Africa, Asia and South America. As much as Andy Demtriou and Sheeds think they are doing a good job to promote the game globally, the only footys I saw was these two young Aussie backpackers kicking the ball around at the Taj Mahal.”
Barrett, a fine footy strategist and former Blacks 2’s B&F winner, will join senior coach Marc Woolnough on a fresh Blacks coaching panel which is looking to turn the fortunes of the club around after a disappointing 2008. “It is a really good challenge and I am pumped to be working under Marc. He has a teriffic footy resume so hopefully we can work well together. Also, the amount of energy around the club for October/November is outstanding.”
Barrett replaces Chris ‘Wal’ Wallace, who after two years at the helm of the 2’s has decided to step down. The club congratulates Wal for his commitment to the position over the last 2 years and looks forward to his continued involvement around the club in the years to come.
