Upon receiving a request the Blacks were pleased to donate 15 used footballs to this community which fields three teams in the Mt Isa competition. Marc Woolnough new Uni Blacks coach

We are pleased to announce that Marc Woolnough has been appointed senior coach.

Marc was drafted by Geelong from Southport in 1998. He had a horror run with knee injuries, but Geelong thought so much of him it retained him on the list for four more years before he again played senior football in 2002. Unfortunately the injuries forced an early retirement. This year he has co-coached St Mary's in the Geelong FL to a premiership.

David Parkin assisted with the appointment of Marc and will continue as Co-ordinator of Coaching at the Blacks.

Players are asked to come to meet Marc at the Clyde Hotel next Tuesday, September 30, at 6.30pm. In addition we will welcome back Luke O'Connell as Under 19 coach and outline the pre Christmas training, social and recruiting programs.

Favourite sons win competition best player awards

Luke Rawnsley, vice-captain of the undefeated Blacks 2004 team, has won the 'Brownlow' of the Blue Diamond League in NSW, playing for Newcastle City. The way in which Luke plays is a coach's dream, and the way coach Anthony Parkin spoke of Luke led to speculation that he in fact did dream of him. Talking of broken hearts, Number 2 member Andy Smith has been in mourning since his love child Al Smith moved to WA last year. Given that Al won 3 B & F's in his 3 years at Blacks, it is no surprise that he too won his comp's best player award.

Congratulations Luke and Al from all your friends at the Blacks.

Passing of Marc Marsden

We advise of the death after a long illness of Marc Marsden. When the MUFC instituted life membership in 1970 Marc's was the first awarded. That says it all about Marc's contribution as a player, secretary, president and friend over many decades to the Blacks, Reds and the MUFC.

Michael Rizio stands down

After 7 years of outstanding service, the last 3 as senior coach, Michael Rizio has retired from coaching the Blacks. Michael was a very significant contributor to 4 premierships, and will be forever remembered for steering the Blacks back to A Grade after 27 years. His football knowledge, his dedication and loyalty, and his wisdom in consistently lifting the professionalism of the playing group without destroying the culture of fun and friendship at the Blacks were admired by all. Just as important, he is the type of man that we were always pleased to have representing our club.

Nana Judy more publicised than Nike (or Leisel Jones)

Uni Blacks players look after each other like no other. Marty Pask thoughtfully wore Glenn Coleman's Nana Judy brand T shirt on Channel 7's Olympic Sunrise program when interviewed after Leisel Jones' gold medal swim. Eight minutes of close ups on high rating national television watched by about 7 million people is worth around $1.35 million. All Marty asks in return is a big 2009 from Glenn and the occasional lace out pass.

Marty was so loyal to his team mate Glenn that he failed to mention what made the difference to Leisel - she wore the signed Uni Blacks jumper the blokes gave her under her swim suit.
