Clubbies Rd 10 v De La Salle - Away

De La Match Report
If one was to peruse the fixture for round ten, it would show Uni Blacks travelled to take on De La Salle. If that same person read the previous weeks results, they would assume this was to be a walk in the park for the Blacks. Mood before the game had a similar feel to it - this should be an easy one. Well it wasn’t, rocking up on time was tough enough for some (Scooter SMS to Merls at 10:30am: I’m running late mate, be there in ten mins) being a 2pm start.

The magnet board had been rattled around this week and a few lads were given a chance to step up and strut their stuff. This was a game De La had to win to keep their finals hopes alive, battling out for fourth spot with Prahran and Monash. With the likes of Dowls, Conan, FISH 80, Chest and Bruiser absent from the week before, this was a good chance for us to test our depth and share some game time around.

Ricky Martin brought up his tonne, and after the formalities we kicked into a slight breeze. Not much to be said of the 1st quarter, so I won’t.

Quarter time rolled around and De La had posted a two goal lead. Some sloppy in close work, questionable decision making and lack of hardness at the ball contributing to a less than typical Black display. Surprisingly, The Red Wine kept his cool in the huddle and laid a simple threat on us, lift the intensity or there’ll be a spray at half time. It took till halfway through the second when De La stretched their lead to three goals that it finally clicked. Sheesh, we’d better extract the digit and play some footy. BANG BANG BANG! The blacks had kicked back through some midfield dominance and a forward line that decided getting in front was best (career limiting comment?).

Greeny, Swifty and Smasher started taking control of the stoppages and combined well with the likes of Merlo and the Moffler up front. Cords and Willo were strong down back all day long. This would be the section where a tacky journo would stoop to the gutter and mention where The Big Sex got his appeal, Mrs Big Sex was spotted on the boundary line. Luckily, I’m not that sort of guy. I’ve got your back Tim.

The third quarter was much like the second, except we changed ends. Blacks kicked away thanks to the inspirational work of Beeker McInnes and The House of Prowse. Beakers hands were so clean in a muddy affair you’d think he had his own bar of Palmolive and Prowse was mopping up everywhere and pushing forward beautifully, Julia would be proud of you boys.

The final Quarter saw us run the game out strongly with Marto following Moffs lead and finally getting his hands on the nut, three goals his return for the milestone day.

On to some golfing fun, can’t wait for that report!
