2010 Rd16 - St Kevins (H)
10 August 2010
It was a big day for the Blacks at the Uni Main, with the Premiership sides of 1990, 2000 and 2005 returning to the hallowed turf to regale stories of despair, blood, violence, injury and ultimately triumph. When they finished talking about the premiership celebrations, they reminisced on the football.
They were greeted by a stunning, sunny day and a Uni Main Oval in the worst condition anyone could remember it.

The 2’s started slowly, possibly due to losing a crumbing forward in the mud and having to play the remainder of the quarter with 17 men.
The pace of the game was quite slow, to say the least, with the ground resembling a battlefield more than a sports ground, and the early lead by St Kevins proved difficult to wrestle back. The Blacks went into the long break one goal down, but keen for the challenge.
The plan in the second half was a simple one, kick it to Matty Ablethorpe, because he was taking everything. The dukes were sticky, but so was the mud, and kicking goals was a challenge only Matt was Able to meet (sorry).
Jez Nettlefold was impressive in his first game up, steaming through the opposition, with Sammy Twy-x in and under and the Flight Risk showing that he is one of the best kicks in the club. Just give it to him.
The boys went down fighting, but we won't be throwing the baby out with the muddy bath water.

With the Pit-monster, Locko, Boltron and Josh Gaylor looking on, the ones had quite the challenge ahead of them, but must have been in a crowd-pleasing mood, getting off to a fast start in front of the reunion lunch. John “The Cannonball” Kosch lived up to his name, unfortunately coming off second best in a collision that would certainly have killed a mere mortal.
Huw Lacey showed that a bit of mud doesn’t get in the way of sublime skills, slotting a goal that Bruce could only describe as “delicious”, while Jordan Foster gave his best effort since rd 1, booting five of the best and dancing around opponents at will. In a game described by Tony Costello as one of the toughest he has seen (that is saying something), our boys kept finding the goals, coming away with one of the great wins of the season.
The equation from here is simple. We have 2 games left, and we must win both of them to play finals.
