2010 Rd 12 - Old Carey (H)

The Uni Main surface greeting the boys on Saturday morning resembled the aftermath of a fierce 12-week battle between two tribes of horsemen armed with little more than sharpened sticks and crude clubs, fighting for the honour of long-dead ancestors. Their rivalry fed throughout the generations by tales and folklore of past deeds, heroic in their intent and brutal in their outcome, now cometh the time when the folklore would mean nothing, without the deeds on which to build their future. So, it was pretty muddy.

The two’s juggernaught rolled on, getting out to an early lead and stretching it throughout the game, the highlight being Morto (Mordor) Mortenson receiving a head wound which later required stitches from Dr Tony Costello (pictures are available), with a crowd of onlookers, horrified but unable to look away, like watching a ruckman kick for goal.

Scotty Weekley was very good in his return from an overseas jaunt, while Drys-a-bone was laconic and easy-going, with a big grin and a ready hand-shake.

Schaef bagged another 4 goals, to take his yearly tally to 37 (in the best 5 times), putting him firmly on top of the league table, with Matty Ablethorpe second with 31 goals and 9 times in the best. With Jesso on 22 goals and Scotty Myers on 20, the Blacks have 4 of the top 6 goal scorers. How do you stop that?

The ones started off beautifully, but let the pressure off in the second, then went to sleep in the third. By the time the alarm went off at the last break, it was too late.

Jodie Foster was very effective across half-back against a tide, while Jack Heeley fought hard all day, leaving hardly any energy left for the rest of the weekend…

Mark ‘the Shark’ Bolton was inspiring in his first game back, With Huw ‘I’m Old Greg!!’ Lacey tirelessly fighting alongside Rob ‘I miss Em’ Scarlett and Matty ‘Oh hoo, Matty oh haa, Matty oh ha ha’ O’hara.

In other news, a big thanks to The Rusty Nail for organizing the Blacks Ball on Saturday night, with the help of Thommo, Shaef, the netball girls and countless others. We had a really great turn out and, more importantly, everyone that came had a super-sweet time. The Black Bear found himself wandering through the streets of Northcote at 5am, trying to catch the flashing red light that was bobbing a meter in front of his face, always just out of reach, so I figure it must have been a good night.

From all reports Yoey is still in his polar bear suit and refuses to take it off until Bolts takes off his shark suit. This could go on for a while.

Most disturbing outfit definitely goes to Locko, who looked exactly like a 12 yr old boy dressed up for a birthday party, with Lacey a close second for the ultra-realistic re-imagining of Old Greg. I’m Old Greg!!!
