2010 1st Semi Final - Old Ivanhoe

Not having expected the ones to make it through to the finals, the Black Bear had already booked and paid for a trip to the snow this weekend. With the powder falling all week and the sun expected to come out on Saturday, he had a hell of a decision to make.

Given that the two’s had the week off, it was a good chance for the three’s to show just exactly who is the heart and soul of the Blacks. With Thomas ‘Killer’ Whale leading the way with three majors and 86 hard-ball gets, Paul ‘Diddy’ Kelly dominating on the nut and Jez ‘Stinging’ Nettlefold tearing strips off the opposition like a kid on Christmas morning. If not for a lack thereof, Steve would have been pulling his hair out uring the last quarter, the 3's giving Bernards a sniff, but holding on strongly against the wind to move through to a prelim. Toddy Smith has had a great year in the threes and has been pivotal in creating a spirit among the boys, and now they’re just two wins away from a premiership.
Go boys.

In front of a big crowd out at Elsternwick Park, the one’s put together a performance of controlled brutality. The boys started well with the wind in the first, but you can never be far enough in front with the wind at Elsternwick. They then held the lead in the second while pushing into the wind, before extending it in the third.

Big Wooly sent a shiver down the spine of all within earshot with his 3 ¼ time speech, leaving the Black Bear scratching at the dirt and blowing steam, looking for something on which to inflict some controlled brutality of his own. The brutalizing was left up to Chucky Richardson, though, who rose to the pressure of being named the Black Bear Favourite Player of 2010 with aplomb, seemingly not affected by the honour bestowed upon him. Joshy Gaylor got amongst the goals, along with the irrepressable Hubert Lacey and The Laconic Fossil.

Matty Oh gave one of his best performances since winning the B&F, with Scotty ‘Once’ Weekly providing the play of the day by out-marking the opposition giants to stop a certain goal. Mr Dubois was inspirational in the ruck, with Dougy Batten and Hamish Guthrie providing the grunt down back.

A super win by the boys, so let's make sure we get out to Elsternwick this Saturday at 11.30 to watch the two's, then next Saturday to watch the 3's and Ones. I just looked at the weather forecast, and it looks like t's going to be a Black September. Get around it.
