Club Information

The University Blacks, one of the oldest football clubs in Australia, currently fields 5 teams in the  VAFA - the Seniors, Reserves, Thirds, Club 18 and Under 19's.

The Senior side has been in the competitive and high quaity Premier B Section of the VAFA for 3 seasons following their demotion from Premier A at the end of 2008. The Club makes no secret of its ambition to return to Premier A, and hopes that season 2012 will provide the launching pad for this return.

The Reserves are perennial premiership winner, with 15 flags in 27 years, including most recently in 2010. The Reserves squad trains in conjunction with the Senior squad and the coaching staff at the Blacks will be placing high expectations on Reserves players in season 2012.

The Thirds provide a perfect combination of fun and fitness. Training requirements are less demanding and the focus is on skill development and learning. The Thirds are a great place to kick-start your senior football career,

The Club 18 goes at a more gentlemanly pace, but they provide much of the colour and personality that will makes your playing days at the Blacks, regardless of the team you play in, the best time of your life.

The Under 19's play in the VAFA Premier U/19 Division and is the perfect place for young students from all backgrounds to complement their studies with a terrific football experience. The Under 19 program at the University Blacks provides young footballers a terrific development experience. In 2011, five U/19 footballers represented the Blacks at senior level, and the U/19 program ensures that young footballers are given a solid pathway to Senior level. If you are young and aspiring to play at a very high standard of football in 2012, please contact the Unders coach Steve Cerni at Steven.Cerni@orchardfunds.com.

The reality is the Blacks is the place to be whatever your age, standard, or football aspirations. One important benefit is the unparalleled past player and supporter network that stands ready to assist our players via our Player Welfare Group. Another is our superb medical set up, a third the chance to play home games on the beautiful Melbourne University main oval. So get your hands on our coloured brochure or even better, talk to one of our coaches, players or officials (see Contacts page).

We look forward to meeting you, and to you discovering that deciding on being a Blacker will be one of best decisions you will make in your life.
