Club Information

University Blacks, the most famous name in Amateur football, has momentum. Back to back premierships in 2004 and 2005, followed by promotion to A Grade in 2007 had us enthusiastically poised for a serious A Grade assault in 2008, unfortunately 2008 did not go according to plan.  2009 saw the club stabilise and finish the year with a string of impressive results however the finals were missed by 1%.  The club is determined to improve in 2010.  Promotion to the upper grades of the VAFA has added a glorious chapter to the Blacks' famous history, which includes more A Grade premierships than any other club (see History page).

Already recruiting for 2010 is proving the Blacks are now seen as a 'club of choice'. If you are a top player, serious about your football and wanting to play it is a great environment, you will be doing yourself a favour by asking for a brochure and a chat. Contact our Vice-Chairman Ray Wilson on r.wilson@bigpond.net.au or on 0418 533 358 or Paul Yeomans on 0438 200 435, or any of the officials and coaches on the Contacts page.

However the Blacks are much more than a top quality senior team. We field three other teams in the VAFA, Reserves, Club 18 and Under 19's. The Reserves are the perfect blend of fun and fitness, and are perennial premiership winner, with 14 flags in 26 years, including 2006. The Club 18 goes at a more gentlemanly pace, but they provide much of the colour and personality that will makes your playing days at the Blacks, regardless of the team you play in, the best time of your life. The Under 19's play in the VAFA Premier Division and is the perfect place for young students from all backgrounds to complement their studies with a terrific football experience. We particularly cater for country students. If you are young and not aspiring to play open age football in 2010, please contact the Unders committee president Adrian Goonan on adrian.goonan@warakirri.com.au or on 0417 277 157.

The reality is the Blacks is the place to be whatever your age, standard, or football aspirations. One important benefit is the unparalleled past player and supporter network that stands ready to assist our players via our Player Welfare Group. Another is our superb medical set up, a third the chance to play home games on the beautiful Melbourne University main oval. So get your hands on our coloured brochure or even better, talk to one of our coaches, players or officials (see Contacts page).

We look forward to meeting you, and to you discovering that deciding on being a Blacker will be one of best decisions you will make in your life.
